Aren’t those photos great? Love the phone on the wall and all the rest. Yes, she is so excited to have the recipe again, and it was so much fun to talk to her about it. I think I will have to make that cake…

Honestly, I think any people “of a certain age” have had that cake, even if they don’t know they’ve had that cake. It’s the moist chocolate cake of our youth. Moms everywhere made it, even if my mom didn’t. I’m sure I’ve had it!

We didn’t have it in our family, but I remember when I was in about 6th grade my best friend, who lived right behind me, asked me to come over to have some Mayonnaise Cake. I thought it was weird and she had to convince me, but I remember thinking it was really moist and really good. Odd that I would remember that one piece of cake! I agree that a lot of us have had it, whether we knew it or not.

My dad loves miracle whip, which we called mayonnaise growing up. I found a mayonnaise chocolate cake recipe in an old cookbook of my grandma's and made it for his birthday one year. That's when I learned miracle whip isn't mayonnaise. I read this story with pure delight!

I'm so glad you enjoyed the story, Matt. And that you've made mayonnaise cake! It's a treasure I'm going to try out making sure to use only real mayonnaise, keeping the Miracle Whip just for my sandwiches!
